today, the first 11 contestants from the first group strutted their stuff to millions of malaysian viewers with the hope of making their dream come true by being the first malaysian idol and subsequently take part in world idol (hopefully). i was kinda disappointed with the setting. the "stage" was like ultra small. if i were to dance on it, there wouldnt be any space left for others lol. the songs were accompanied by ONE piece of musical instrument (the piano) and thats it. no live studio audience. no audience applause. the only applause that was heard was from the other contestants. the judges were "stoned" aka kaku maxed out. roslan was weird. he's suddenly mr polite and courteous. fauziah latiff criticized more on the contestants' fashion sense whilst wearing that sorry excuse for a head scarf. paul moss was okay, just that he kept beating around the bush and i just feel that there's something missing and not quite right.
least to say, the judges were not being how they were during the auditions. paul moss was okay, overall.
as for the contestants, they were good. i liked vick, dina, shima and nikki in particular. personally, they were outstanding. vick's performance wasnt the best today as opposed to the one he did during the auditions for the top 33. guess he chose the wrong song. dina blew me away! she did her rendition of misha omar's bunga bunga cinta and it was breath-taking! though she faltered here and there, she managed to pull it off leaving me mesmerized. shima's vocals are steady and well controlled. much like kelly clarkson's. she did her version of clarkson's "The Trouble With Love Is". nikki has the gift of hitting mariah's high notes. this woman definitely gets my vote seeing that i'm an avid fan of Mariah Carey.
so far, malaysian idol has been pretty good and hope it gets better.
